Thinking with Water, Landscapes and Critters: Multimodal Engagements, RAI Film Festival Conference, 7-8 March 2023

At the RAI Film Festival Conference this year, together with my colleague Michaela Schaeuble, I have convened a panel that draws from conversations, courses, and research we have been developing at the Institute of Social Anthropology, University of Bern since 2018.

The research presented during the two-day panel engages with mutually entangled environmental and religious landscapes in Puglia, sonic ethnographies of liquidity in Times Square, NYC; hydro-social poetics in the Sonoran Desert of North America; waterscapes and hydro-social becomings along the Rhine River Valley; sensory ethnography with the Zayanderoud River in central Iran; water ontologies and hydro-social networks of the Omo River in southwestern Ethiopia; experimental filmic approaches toward worlding an extractive landscape in Northern Québec; and more-than-human approaches to marine scientific imagining with the Icelandic Marine and Freshwater Institute.
